Evaluation - Question 2:
It was an essential for all three of my tasks to correspond with one and other, in order for all three of my tasks to be viewed as a set, this tool is useful when considering the marketing of each production, each product will raise awareness of the other, for example the digipak for 'A Young Understanding' single is advertised in the magazine advert and is further promoted by the music video - all gathering awareness and gaining potential popularity of one and other. When creating my main task and ancillary tasks the cross over of corresponding themes, props, locations, actors, colouring and shots was on my mind.
Firstly, this is shown through the use of actress I used the same actress/model that was used within my main production for the cover of my magazine advertisement and digipak. I decided to use the same model that was used within the main task in order to connect all three of my tasks together. Not only do I believe the use of the same model throughout all three of my tasks links them together, it also creates a flowing narrative for audiences to follow - making the narrative that we created in the music video almost believable, creating a connection between the character's story and the audience. Further, the use of the model within my digipak and magazine advert holding cigarettes/alcohol cans references back to the music video once again and the themes that are brought up.
Secondly, I linked the bright colours used within the 'lipstick' shots of my main production to the different colours of fonts I used for my digipak (bright blue, purple, pink and orange). I decided to reference the lipstick shots with the font colours because I believe that that specific scene within my main production truly references our theme of drug and alcohol abuse amongst youths - not only are the bright colours bold and eye catching, the remind audiences of the music video furthering the fact that all three of my designs are part of a corresponding set.
Also, the music video features a orange-toned colour treatment filter over the whole video - from beginning to end. When editing my digipak and magazine advert I decided to correspond this orange-toned colour treatment with the filtering of my images. I decided that this filter would too work well with my digipak, the bright, warmth of the orange adds to the idea of youth being represented as 'fun', further, TV shows that I gathered inspiration from for my ancillary and main tasks such as 'Skins' (2008-13) all feature similar style filters.
The location of the park was used to shoot scenes within the music video, I decided to use this same location to shoot the images for my digipak and ancillary tasks - again I believed that by using a location that was present within the music video all three of my tasks would link better together. Further, this creates a familiarity for the audience, they are able to recognise that all three of my tasks work together as a set - the digipak and magazine ad constantly reference the music video. Further, the location of a park is stereotypically one that is related to youths 'getting up to no good' or 'hanging about' smoking and drinking - in a sense I wanted to conform to this stereotype, but show the negative affects of this said lifestyle.
Overall, I believe that my main task and ancillary tasks combined well together in an effective way. My use of consistent branding and referencing between my tasks shows the aesthetic and theme of my production well, and I believe the theme of drug and alcohol abuse amongst youths is portrayed well. Each of my products promote each other well, I believe that the products I have created could compete with existing products in the music industry.
How effective is the combination of your main task and ancillary texts?
